Final Exam (Optional)

Read it carefully and please follow the instructions for sending your exam to me. You don't have to tell us in advance if you are going to take the final. Just do it and send it in, we will grade the ones we receive and if we don't receive a final from you your grade will be the average of your two papers. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PxrssmCHROTeISXIq81BSlhWw0Tt3Ng15RVlwHf3zv8/edit?usp=sharing

Final Exam Update (Updated 8:30 PM)

After consultation with my colleagues, and via the Department Chair, with the Dean’s office, I have decided to make the final exam optional, and extend the deadline a couple of days for those who wish to take it. If you do not choose to take the final, your final grade will be the average of your two papers. I understand you will want to know your grade on the second paper before deciding whether to do the final. If  you wish to know your grade by email, you can send me (falvey@philosophy.ucsb.edu) a request for it   from your UCSB email address,  with the following in the subject line exactly as written: phil100ew20Paper2 The final will be posted tomorrow and you will have until Saturday night to do it if you wish. Watch the website four further updates.

Final exam format

The final will be a take-home , but I haven't decided on the details yet. It will be somewhat like the first writing assignment, though with more questions and a slightly higher word count, probably 2000 words. Studying the study questions is still the best way to prepare, but since you are able to use your notes and texts, the questions on the exam won't correspond very closely to the study questions. You will have about four days to complete it. I will post it here Sunday 3/15, with further instructions.

Announcement regarding instruction and the final exam

Hello all, Here is the plan for the remainder of Winter Quarter. Final Lecture: I will record my last lecture in an audio file and post it on the website. I will also post the PowerPoint slides, so you can follow along as you listen to the lecture. Review Session : In view of the Chancellor's and EVC's emails yesterday, I have decided to cancel the review session scheduled for Thursday. However. . . Office Hours: . . . I see no reason to cancel office hours, as they involve only small groups. I will have my office hour scheduled for today, 3:30 - 5:00, my regular hour Thursday, 3:30 - 4:30, and I will add two additional hours: Thursday, 4:30 - 5:30, and Friday, 1:00 - 2:00 PM. Final Exam: The final will not be in-class. I have not decided what form it will take, but it will either be a take-home or some form of online exam. Check the website for updates.

Review Session Thursday

Extra Office Hour Wednesday
